Male students took to the streets in Bauchi on Monday to protest the separation of boys and girls in secondary schools.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Aliyu Tilde said last week the government decided to segregate male and female students in public secondary schools because of student moral decadence on social media, which is common in co-ed schools.
He made the statement while speaking to journalists two weeks ago after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at Government House in the state capital.
Tilde said the government had decided to revisit the 1978 policy of abolishing core schooling in the state and only taking the move whenever and wherever possible.
