Strikes: FG to meet NLC, TUC, others

The Federal Government has scheduled a meeting with the representatives of Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, their affiliates, and other civil society organizations to look for a lasting solution to incessant industrial actions by workers.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige disclosed this in an interview with State House correspondents after a meeting he held with the President, Muhammad Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ngige said the meeting which is slated to hold on Saturday is meant to disclose the true state of the financial account of the government to the labour leaders in order to appreciate the challenges faced by the nation.

The Minister who was in the villa to brief the President on the recent industrial action by the National Association of Resident Doctors(NARD) which was suspended on Thursday said the President has given the approval for the meeting to be held between the parties.

At the meeting, the government would lay bare its finances and challenges and would also accommodate the fears of unions and what they think would be good for Nigerians.

The Minister noted that representatives of ASUU would also attend the meeting to table their positions.
