Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, has condemned the incessant strikes action by varsity lecturers in the country, saying that students are always at the receiving end as they are often denied the quantity and quality of education they deserve.
Accroding to the institution’s weekly bulletin, Prof. Abdulkareem disclosed this while playing host to a crew of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ilorin, who had come for a personality interview programme, ‘Guest of the Moment’.
Pointing out that “strike is not the only way to fight”, he said, “I am very averse to strike action. It is not good to have academic training disjoined. We can only make the nation proud by giving the students quality and uninterrupted education”.
He furthered that government should be global in its approach when dealing with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by adequately taking care of the welfare of the lecturers.
