French President Emmanuel Macron has urged Israel to stop the bombing of Gaza.
Macron told BBC in an interview published late on Friday that there was “no legitimacy” for the bombing, adding that a ceasefire would benefit Israel.
“These babies, these ladies, these old people are bombed and killed,” the French leader said. “So there is no reason for that,” he added. “So we do urge Israel to stop,” he stated
He said France condemns the terrorist actions of Hamas, saying even while Israel has right to protect itself, a stop to the bombing in Gaza has become necessary.
“I hope they will,” the French president said when asked if he wanted other leaders – including in the United States and Britain – to join his calls for a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, United States of America has refused to support calls for a full ceasefire, instead backing a ‘pause moment’ in the fighting to allow humanitarian aid.
Palestinian rebel Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7 and killed at least 1,200 people, according to Israeli officials.
In return, an intense bombings and ground assaults by Israel on Gaza have since killed more than 11,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, according to health officials
