The Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Kayode Alabi has said sport is instrumental in lifting people out of poverty.
Mr. Alabi disclosed this when he joined Team Kwara at ongoing the 20th National Sports Festival tagged “Edo 2020 in Benin City, the State Capital of Edo.
The deputy governor, who was conducted round the facilities by the Director, Kwara State Sports Council, Coach Ibrahim Atanda Alarape, applauded the athletes from the State, confirming that their performances are encouraging.
He expressed delight over the medals the State’s athletes have won since far.
He noted that with such dedication, Team Kwara will make the State proud, adding that Kwara’s participation in the 20th National Festival shows that there is prospect for the State sports-wise.
Alabi also promised that most of the modern facilities found at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium will be replicated in Kwara State.
“We are already fixing sports infrastructures in the State. We are going to replicate modern facilities like the Central Court of Tennis that can contain 3000 spectators which we are seeing here…”, Alabi said.
He further expressed Gov. AbdulRazaq-led Administration’s commitment renovating the Kwara State Stadium Complex and upgrading its facilities to boost the chances of the State hosting the National Festival in the nearest future.
