Son of senior police officer burnt to death in Lagos

A son of a senior police officer of the Lagos Police Command died during a fire accident at Falamo Police Barracks in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the tragic occurrence.

He said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ikoyi, received informational details about the incident.

He said the DPO gathered that the fire incident happened on Tuesday around 9.00 p.m., and razed Room 24, Block 1 of ASP Godspower David, connected to Bar Beach Police Division, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The spokesman added emergency firefighters were mobilised to the affected scene to rescue the situation.

“The teams successfully put out the fire, however, during evacuation of the debris, corpse of one Emmanuel Godspower David, aged 15 years, the son of the officer consumed by the inferno, was found.

“The corpse has been evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy, while investigation is in progress,” he said.

Report has it that the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Idowu Owohunwa, on Thursday, paid the bereaved officer at Falomo Police Barracks a visit to express their sympathy.

The CP, who was welcomed by the officer and wife, said he received the report on Wednesday with sadness and made up his mind to visit them in person to express condolence.

The CP added that he’s sad to hear that life was lost in the fire incident.

He donated the sum of N500,000 to cater for their immediate expenses and prayed for their comfortability.
