Six injured in Kwara communal clash

Six people were on Monday injured during a communal clash between Lafiagi and Edogi communities in Edu LGA of Kwara state over land dispute.

It was gathered that the fight broke out – on Monday night and lasted till the early hours of Tuesday – when one of the rival community members allegedly ignored court order by trespassing a disputed parcel of land, prompting some angry youths from the other community to take action, thereby resulting in free for all.

A source said the land dispute had been on for a long time and the matter had been taken to court.

He added that the court judgment however favoured one community over the other.

Several people were said to have been injured but no death was recorded.

The state Police spokesperson, Dsp Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident.

He said, “Only one person is critically injured while five others sustained minor injuries.

“I can confirm to you that no life was lost. Also, no houses were burnt during the clash.

“Calm has returned to the two communities as the command this morning deployed a detachment of policemen to the scene of the fracas, and they have arrested some people in connection with the clash. But I cannot tell you the exact number of people arrested for now.”
