Six unemployed individuals, including a woman, have been remanded by the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, Nigeria, over allegations of murder and armed robbery.
The defendants, namely Samson Okoya, Damilola Oluwasegun, Dada Oki, Ahmed Suleiman, Matthew Onyieagho, and Mercy Abudu, were arraigned on charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, causing grievous harm, membership of a secret society, and aiding and abetting the crime.
The defendants, all residents of Badagry in Lagos State, allegedly committed the offenses on May 31 at a residence in Magbon, Badagry.
According to the prosecutor, the defendants burgled the house of one Ismaila Bakare and robbed him at gunpoint, making away with gold jewelry worth N9 million, phones valued at N1.4 million, and shoes and bags worth N2 million, among other items, totaling N13.2 million.
During the incident, the defendants reportedly opened fire when confronted by members of the community, resulting in the death of Mr. Ibrahim Sugah, who was shot in the chest. Four other individuals sustained injuries from the gunfire.
The investigation revealed that the sixth defendant, Mercy Abudu, allegedly provided her house as a hideout for the perpetrators.
The magistrate, A. J. Odueke, ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Kirikiri custodial facility until September 13, allowing time for the court to receive advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.
The case involves various charges under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, including conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, and other related offenses.
