Shun drug abuse – Kwara govt urges youths
In a bid to attain a drug-free society, the Kwara State Government has urged the youths in the state to shun the abuse of drugs.
Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrasaq made this call during the week at the commemoration of 2024 United Nations Day against abuse of drugs and illicit drug trafficking, held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Ilorin Kwara State.
The Governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-lmam, highlighted the efforts of the Kwara State Government in sensitising young citizens and community leaders to discourage misuse of drugs in the state.
AbdulRazaq, who also charged all security personnel to join in sensitising the public, most especially the young ones, to build a healthy nation, commended the Office of the Kwara First Lady, Ambassador Professor Olufolake Abdulrasaq, Kwara State Drugs Control Committee (DCC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for a notable achievement following the reductions of drug abuse in the State.
In his remarks, the State Commander NDLEA, CN Mohammed Ibrahim, commended the leadership qualities of Mallam AbdulRahaman AbdulRasaq in his efforts at maintaining zero tolerance for the abuse of Drugs and illicit drug trafficking in the State and Nigeria at large while assuring the Agency’s readiness to partner with Kwara State Ministry of Health in the enlightenment programme, aimed at eradicating abuse of drugs.
Present at the event include The Permanent Secretary of Kwara State Ministry of Health, Ajia Afusat Ibrahim, Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Commander of Immigration Services Kwara State, Nigeria Correctional Services, Nigeria Army 22 BBE, Kwara State Director Department of State Services, Commissioners for Health as well as Education and Human Capital Development, invited Schools amongst others.
