Maybe we should name the past administration ‘A fún ni ni oúnjẹ má fẹ́ a yó tí ń fún ni ní oko ìdí ọ̀pẹ ro’ which literally translates as ‘someone who gives you the hardest nut to crack’ — who at the end of their imbalance tenures gave sordid employments to our people and raised their hopes in futility.
They made the employment process shady that it reflects how bad they have been to us in this part of the country. A well-perfected time bomb set to explode at any little clasp. We should forget about them, they are now part of our history, but they will always be remembered in our day-to-day activities of redefining this state. We move on!
To the present Sheriff in town, it is not until you tell us you inherited these unqualified teachers, we were all here, we witnessed everything but who are we to talk as God has chosen you for us. You should rather set out to put things best so as not to puncture the trust masses bestowed on you — if at any point you injure the trust, there are always remnants of the canes used in flogging the people of yesterday lying somewhere around.
Can we discuss the effects that the termination of appointment of those teachers would bring upon the state? Increase rates of unemployment even as the unemployment rate for Kwara state stood at 21.1% (13.19% in Q3 2017) which represents a 7.9 percentage points increase in the unemployment rate. It will increase this time drastically and put the state in unpleasant conditions.
The rate of underemployment which stood at 3.0 percentage points to hit 21.4% in Q3 2018 would also increase drastically and these may fetter the growth of the state economy and rip you off the medals the good people of the state have bestowed this administration.
Unarguably, in the revival of our education system only qualified teachers are to be in charge of our classes as this will boost the learning of students and also yield positive academic impacts, but the summum bonum for every Kwaran is seeing his or her state thriving and trending positively — not to be plagued by unemployment as a result of massive termination of appointments.
If they have qualifications but not the one meant for teachers, that shows they have want they can offer the society, government should reinforce these noble people, they should be absorbed in a manner that won’t hurt both the people and the government.
In this part of the world where cash and carry protesters would soon have an established association in flourishing their ignoble businesses, for any penny offered these people by any group to protest would worth more than the emoluments they initially deserved.
Ahmadu Bello way could probably renamed ‘Protesters way’ and another set of people would see this mass termination of appointment as an employment opportunity — you sent them out of the classes to the streets and become paid protesters instead of paid teachers.
His Excellency should remember he promised tranquility, rode to power on the promise of accountability and promised he will be steadfast in bringing Kwarans and Kwara first in all his doings. Obviously, he can fix this for us, kindly do sir, don’t let breadwinners of families turned to bread-snatchers.
