Several injured as bandits launch fresh attack on Kwara North communities
Suspected armed bandits on Monday launched coordinated attacks on three villages in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, overrunning Gada, Lata Woro, and Kokodoko communities and leaving several residents and local vigilantes injured.
The attacks reportedly began around 4 p.m., with Gada village, located along the Lafiagi-Patigi highway, overrun by the armed assailants, who arrived in large numbers and wielded sophisticated firearms.
The assault left several vigilantes injured, although no fatalities have been confirmed as of press time.
Sources told The Informant247 that the bandits fired sporadically upon arrival, causing widespread panic among residents.
“Local vigilantes who attempted to resist the incursion were quickly outmatched and forced to retreat to Gbugbu, another nearby community. This is beyond what local hunters can handle — they were outgunned, and many of them were injured.
“Gada is now under the control of the bandits. People were injured, and everyone is living in fear,” said a local source.
The Nigerian Army has reportedly mobilized troops to the affected areas and launched a security operation aimed at neutralizing the bandits and reclaiming the villages.
The fresh attack comes in the aftermath of multiple abductions and killings in Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas of the state over the weekend.
Neither the government nor security agencies have issued an official statement as of press time.
