Senate confirms reappointment of Dabiri-Erewa as NIDCOM Boss
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the reappointment of Abike Dabiri-Erewa as the Executive Chairman and CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission( NIDCOM) for another five years.
This was made known on Tuesday after Nanchi Michael, chairperson of the senate committee on diaspora, presented a report at the plenary.
The lawmaker said Dabiri-Erewa possesses the necessary technical and academic credentials to perform exceptionally and efficiently in the role.
He pointed out that there was no petition against her noting that the nominee sponsored the bill for the establishment of the commission when she was a member of the house of representatives.
President Buhari’s spokesperson, Bashir Ahmad also took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Dabiri-Erewa following her re-appointment.
“The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Mrs. @Abike Dabiri-Erewa for reappointment as the Chairman and CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) for a second term. Congratulations once again ma’am!,” Ahmad tweeted.
President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier this month wrote to the senate seeking confirmation of Dabiri-Erewa.
Before her appointment in 2018 as the pioneer Chairman of the newly established commission which serves under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abike was the senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and diaspora.
A former member of the green chamber of the national assembly representing the Ikorodu constituency of Lagos, the trained Journalist was the one who sponsored the Bill for the establishment of NiDCOM when she was a member of the House of Representatives.
