Senate confirms ministerial nominee who fainted during screening; two others

After a mid-drama marred by the screening of the ministerial nominee from Kaduna, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, who fainted during the screening process, the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed the Kaduna State nominee, Abbas and two others nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Senate confirmed the duo of Dr Jamila Ibrahaim and Ayodele Olawande, who were nominated as Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively.

The Informant247 reports commotion earlier in the Senate when the nominee who replaced Nasir El-Rufai suddenly collapsed during his screening on Wednesday.

While the Kaduna South senator, Sunday Katung, discussed Balarabe’s administrative background, the nominee suddenly slumped while still on the podium.

Katung was interrupted when Senate President Godswill Akpabio shouted, “Bring water and sugar. Call Dr. Musa.”

Akpabio instructed journalists and camera operators to stop filming and leave the Senate chamber.

The nominee was later taken to the National Assembly clinic.
