Senate Calls for Special Military Operations, Plans to Summon Service Chiefs Amidst Insecurity Crisis

The decision was reached by the upper chamber on Thursday following discussions about the abduction of five female students from Federal University Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State on Wednesday.

The individuals to be summoned include General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff; Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun; and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Lawmakers have called on security agencies to take proactive measures to rescue the kidnapped female students and the corps members abducted by terrorists in Zamfara State.

They also urged the military to conduct special operations to combat bandits in the North-West and other parts of the country, as well as address the manpower shortage in the armed forces and police.

Additionally, senators emphasized the importance of establishing state police as a solution to the nation’s security challenges.

However, no specific date has been set for the planned meeting with the service chiefs.

In a related development, five female students from Federal University Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State were abducted by suspected terrorists on Wednesday, with one suspect already arrested by the police in connection with the incident.

The victims were taken from their residence behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial International School along Tsaskiya Road in the early hours of Wednesday at about 2:30 a.m.

The police are actively investigating the incident to secure the release of the abducted students.
