Security forces destroy IPOB camp in Ebonyi, arrest members

Police operatives, soldiers, and officials from the Department of State Service (DSS) conducted a joint operation targeting a camp affiliated with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Eke-agbebor Isu, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.

The operation resulted in the destruction of an IPOB shrine within the camp.

According to a press statement released in Abakaliki on Thursday by the Ebonyi State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the operation was carried out on September 13 based on credible and actionable intelligence.

During the operation, one of the alleged IPOB/ESN (Eastern Security Network) members was shot and fatally wounded, while others managed to escape with various degrees of bullet wounds.

Two individuals identified as Emmanuel Chinedu (aka Patho), aged 26, and Paul Ani (aka Osah), aged 38, were arrested during the operation.

In a separate incident on September 14, an alleged IPOB member was apprehended by residents of Agba community in Ishielu local government area of the state while attempting to flee.

The suspect was subsequently handed over to the police.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police urged hospitals, traditional medicine practitioners, chemists, and residents to report anyone seeking medical attention for bullet wounds to the nearest police station.
