Security concerns force closure of Court of Appeal in Owerri

The Court of Appeal in Owerri has announced a temporary shutdown, citing security concerns.

The court will remain closed from Monday, October 28, to Friday, November 1, 2024, suspending all scheduled hearings and barring entry to lawyers and litigants.

In a press release, Deputy Chief Registrar explained that previously issued hearing notices for this period have now been cancelled.

The notice stated, “Despite having issued hearing notices for October 28 to November 1, security concerns have compelled us to postpone this week’s sittings. All hearing notices stand cancelled.”

The court issued this information early to save time, effort, and costs for all involved, offering apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Although specific details about the security concerns were not disclosed, the sudden announcement reflects a cautious approach to ensure the safety of court staff and visitors.
