‘Secret talks with bandits’: Shinkafi criticizes politicization of Zamfara’s security challenges, calls for action

In the midst of recent allegations made by Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State regarding secret talks with bandits, Dr. Sani Shinkafi, the former Chairman of the Prosecution of Armed Banditry Related Offences in Zamfara State, has called on the Federal Government to prioritize the collective effort to restore peace and security.

Shinkafi, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his concerns over the ongoing political feud in Zamfara State, emphasizing the need to put the well-being and safety of the state’s residents first.

In a statement released on Sunday, Shinkafi stressed the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing the security challenges facing the state.

He acknowledged that the situation in Zamfara State, characterized by persistent kidnappings, displacement of innocent citizens, killings, and armed robberies, is dire.

Shinkafi highlighted a peace dialogue held at Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, involving various stakeholders such as the military, traditional rulers, Fulani leaders, community leaders, vigilante groups, and even bandit leaders. Notably, the governor’s representative, Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi, attended this dialogue.

Shinkafi expressed his surprise at Governor Lawal’s recent accusations, given his involvement in the peace dialogue.

He urged the governor to avoid playing politics with the lives of the people during this challenging period.

The APC chieftain called upon the Federal Government and the armed forces to remain resolute and unwavering in their fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping.

He stressed the importance of implementing an effective military strategy to restore security, peace, and order in Zamfara State.

Shinkafi concluded by expressing his belief in the resilience of the people of Zamfara State and their ability to overcome insecurity and poor leadership, emerging stronger and more prosperous in the end.
