The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed the election victory of Alex Otti as Abia State governor
Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, while delivering the judgment, dismissed the appeal against the victory of Otti, adding that the appeal by the PDP lacked merit.
The Informant247 reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Alex Otti of the Labour Party (LP) winner of the governorship election held on March 18 in Abia State.
Dissatisfied with the results, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Okey Ahiwe, and his counterpart in the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Ikechi Emenike, headed to court, where Justice H.T.D Gwadah-led three-man panel of the state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Umuahia on Friday, October 6, dismissed Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) election petition against governor Otti
Hon. Justice H.T.D Gwadah, in a three hours judgment, struck out the petition on three grounds: Alex Otti’s qualification to participate in the 2023 governorship election, Electoral Malpractice and Otti’s inability to score the required number of votes to qualify him to be declared the winner of the 2023 polls, for which PDP approached the tribunal.
In her judgement, Gwadah dismissed the PDP petition for lack of merit.
Meanwhile, the tribunal verdict was affirmed by the Court of Appeal in Lagos while dismissing appeals against Otti by both the PDP and APC candidates.
