“Rude shock”: Veterinary Association begs Kwara Govt to rescue kidnapped member

The Kwara State Chapter of the Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), on Thursday, appealed to the Kwara State Government to ensure the release of the kidnapped member of the Association and other identified farmworkers.

A Statement signed by the chapter’s Chairman,  Dr. Saka Jimoh Shittu also pleaded with the government to beef up the security architecture around livestock production estates to forestall future occurrences stating that the state is now becoming targets of criminal elements.

Recall that The Informant247 reported that a farm manager who is also a member of NVMA and two farm workers were abducted by gunmen in army uniform at their commercial poultry farms at Pampo community in Asa local government area of Kwara state.

It was also reported that the kidnappers, who were six in number were armed with AK47 rifles during the attack had already contacted the victims’ families, demanding the sum of N45million for the three people.

The Veterinary Association, while describing the news as a “rude shock”, acknowledged the intervention of the State Government and the various security apparatuses, however, enjoined stakeholders in the livestock production sector to work as partners in denying safe habitation for criminal elements.[divider style=”solid” top=”20″ bottom=”20″]

Kwara Policer combs forest

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command said it had deployed its men to comb forest in Asa Local Government Area of the state in search of three abducted farmworkers.

The owner of one of the farms, Mr. Sanmi Omopariola revealed, in an interview with newsmen, that the Police Intelligence discovered that the suspected kidnappers are still around a location in the Lasoju community, in the local government area of the state.

Omopariola also added that while speaking with the bandits on phone, he spoke Yoruba in Fulani accent.
