Rivers crisis: Court declares Fubara’s loyalist, Edison Ehie as authentic Speaker

Rivers Speaker Edison Ehie

The Federal High Court Sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, declared Edison Ehie as the authentic Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly.

It would be recalled that Edison Ehie, who is one of the four lawmakers backing the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the ongoing face-off between him and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike, was suspended and removed as leader of the house by his colleagues who are loyal to Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja.

The Informant247 gathered that Justice M.W. Danagogo, in his ruling, ordered Martins Amaewhule and Dumle Maol to stop parading themselves as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly while also warning against using thugs and Police officers to gain access to the Assembly Complex.

The Informant247 reports that the Rivers State political crisis on Monday took a new twist after 27 out of 32 members of the State Assembly defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was learned that the lawmakers announced their defection in a group photograph where they are seen holding the APC flag, citing division within the PDP as the primary reason for their defection.

The development has heightened the crisis between the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
