The President of Offa Grammar School Old Students Association (OGSOSA) 2000 Set, Barr. Barr. Temi Nuruddin Salami (SABO) has appealed to Kwara State Government to return the Offa Grammar school to the community if it cannot manage it effectively.
Barr. Salami made the disclosure on Friday during a site visit to the school which the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) had recently disconnected the power supply to the school.
He said, “The quality of teaching in Offa Grammar School has fallen considering the large number of students failing in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) among other examinations as a result of poor rumenration for teachers.
“The state government needs to increase the salary and welfare of the teachers to enable them impact useful knowledge, quality teaching to the students.”
According to him, the disconnection of power supply by the IBEDC and other serious managerial problems is responsible for the mass failure in SSCE exams.
The OGSOSA President emphasized that the state government is only paying teachers poor salary leaving the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) to run the school with electricity bills still being offsets by the Community.
Barr. Salami noted that the state of dilapidated facilities in the school needs urgent attention by the state government as if they can’t manage it they should simply return the school to the community.
Recall that the State Government took the school off the Community some decades ago to manage it for effective by providing quality education delivery to the people.
Meanwhile, in it usual generosity, the OGSOSA 2000 set swung into action by restoring the Power supply in the school to avert prolong blackout in the community.
The President, Barr. Salami said, “We received a call today, 6th of January, 2023 from the principal (OGS) that we( OGSOSAY2K) should assist the school with generator set to power the newly commission ICT center, that the electricity supply to the school has been disconnected for months due to their inability to meet up with the IBEDC payment requirements.
“She informed me about the efforts made by the ODU over this issue while soliciting for our intervention to restore power to the school after months of outage.
“I visited the school alongside some of the members of our noble association. We met with the school authority and IBEDC manager( Offa branch), Mr Isaac. After thorough deliberation and negotiation we were able to save the day and power has been restored.
“The principal was estactic and she expressed gratitude towards our timely intervention in restoring power to the school after a prolonged power outage.”
The President applauded members who spared the time out of their busy schedules towards this accomplishment.
