The apex Igbo sociopolitical organization, Ohanaeze has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu from detention.
The group appealed to the president to release Kanu as his parting gift to the citizens of Nigeria, as he (Buhari) would be handing over power to the president elect Senator Bola Tinubu next month.
This was made known in a statement released by a chieftain of the group, Okechukwu Isiguzoro.
He reminisced how the federal government released some members of Boko Haram and said Kanu can be released too.
Isiguzoro said: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on President Muhammadu Buhari for the unconditional release of the incarcerated IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as a parting gift to Nigerians.
“Surely, if Boko Haram terrorists, who took up arms against the Nigerian state can be pardoned and rehabilitated, releasing the IPOB leader is not too much to ask for.”
Isiguzoro also appealed to Igbos to back and support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, to reclaim his mandate via legal means.
“Ndigbo should resolutely support the Labour Party, LP, Presidential candidate, Peter Obi in recovering his mandate through legal instruments, and we commend Nigerians, of all ages, from across the country who have continued to support him as he strives to reclaim his Pan-Nigerian mandate in order to move our beloved Nigeria “from consumption to production,” he stated.
