President Buhari dissolves Interim Management Committee for Nigeria Basketball
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the dissolution of the Interim Management Committee for Basketball in Nigeria.
In a statement released and signed by Mohammed Manga, the Director (Press) Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports development on Monday,15th of August, the dissolution of the Ten-man committee earlier set up on the heels of the once lingering crisis of in Nigeria Basketball Federation(NBBF) takes immediate effect.
The Statement in full;
“The Federal Government in addressing the lingering crisis in the Nigeria Basketball Federation had cause to set up an Interim Management Committee on 4th June, 2022 following Nigeria’s withdrawal from International competitions for two years.
With the Federal Government’s rescission from its earlier withdrawal of Nigeria Basketball from the International scene and relisting the NBBF beginning from Nigeria’s participation in FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Africa Qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, the continuation of the IMC is no longer necessary.
The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development hereby announces the dissolution of the Interim Management Committee for Nigeria Basketball with immediate effect.
The Ministry in the same connection, wishes to thank the Chairman and Members of the now defunct Committee for their invaluable services to the Basketball family and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Recall that the Ministry has eventually recognized and ratified election that brought in the Musa Kida led board- a development which puts to rest the crisis that has bedeviled Basketball for years.
The ratification was consequent to the letter written by Musa Kida dated June 17 apologizing for the debacle that the crisis had brought to the Nation.
