The resignation of the Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva has been confirmed by the presidency ahead of the All Progressive Congress, APC, governorship primaries in Bayelsa State in April.

Bashir Ahmad, a media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari made this confirmation in a post through his Twitter account.

Ahmad wrote “Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and former Bayelsa state governor, H.E. Timipre Sylva, has resigned his appointment to contest in the next Bayelsa governorship election”.

The Informant247 recalls that the state minister last year tendered his resignation letter to the presidency following his declaration of intent to contest the presidential primaries of the ruling party.

He withdrew the letter a few days later despite his presence at a valedictory service with the president alongside other ministers who contested the primaries.

As earlier reported by The Informant247, Chief Sylva on Friday March 31, 2023 tendered his resignation letter to the President.

This came following the minister’s declaration of intent to contest in the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in April.

The Informant247 recalls that Sylva had served as the Governor of Bayelsa State for one term, which makes him have another constitutional opportunity to contest for another tenure in the state.
.
The spokesperson to the minister, Horatius Egua said he could not confirm or deny the development.

He said he has not set his eyes on the resignation letter or got an official update on the minister’s resignation.
