Prepaid meter: EKEDC launches MAP scheme

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has reintroduced the Meter Asset Providers (MAP) Scheme to enable customers purchase prepaid meters directly without delays, The Informant247.

The electricity Distribution Company made the announcement in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.

It said: “In line with our efforts to close the metering gap within our operational network, Eko DisCo is reintroducing the MAP scheme.

“Through this scheme, our customers can now make an upfront payment to our accredited vendors to get metered.

“To apply for a meter under MAP, please visit our website: and fill the form online.”

The statement, however, noted that the MAP scheme would run concurrently with the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP).

It further stated that customers are now expected to pay N63,061.32 (VAT inclusive) for a single-phase meter and N117,910 (VAT inclusive) for a three-phase meter.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had in November 2021 directed the DisCos to reintroduce the MAP scheme to complement the NMMP.

The NMMP, which involves the distribution of free prepaid meters to customers, was flagged off by the Federal Government on Oct. 30,2020 with the aim of bridging the metering gap in the country.

According to NERC, about 980,000 electricity customers were under the Phase Zero of the NMMP.

The second phase (Phase One) is billed to begin in the first quarter of 2022 with a metering target of four million electricity customers across Nigeria.
