Police recover baby dumped in Lagos dumpster, move baby to motherless home

The officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have retrieved a newborn that was allegedly dropped in a dumpster in a street in Ikoyi.

The spokespersons of the police in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin revealed that the baby was seen on Thursday.

The staff of the LAWMA proceeded to the Ikoyi police division around 10am to make complaint on the discovery.

The spokesperson of the police explained that the officers of the organization were on their routine duty when they sighted the newborn who was wrapped in a polythene bag.

The Divisional Crime Officer, DPO, immediately mobilized a team of police officers to the affected scene and hospitalized the baby to Military Hospital, 81 Division, Dodan Barracks Ikoyi.

The image maker of the police in the state further said the baby got medical attention and moved to a motherless baby center in the metropolis.

The spokesperson of the police gave an assurance that the baby was in good condition, and that the kae enforcement agents had begun an investigation.

Hundeyin further said that “infanticide is a crime and punishable”. The act contravenes Section 327A of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria.
