Police overpower 5-man kidnapping gang, recover N4m
The Nigeria Police Force has overpowered a gang of five suspected abductors who were alleged of terrorising the Mubi axis of Adamawa State.
The men of police command arrested members of the gang after the gang allegedly committed their last offence of abducting a child and got N5 million ransom from the parents.
The spokesperson of the police command in the state, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, while confirming the incident in a statement released on Friday, revealed that the suspects were apprehended last Sunday, October 9.
He said the officers of the police recorded a success after an intelligence-driven operation championed by the men of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB).
“Further to the Command’s renewed commitment to enhance proactive strategies in crime fighting, the Command had again on the 9/10/2022, disconnected a crime network connecting syndicate of five in Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas,” Nguroje stated.
The mouthpiece of the police command added that the cash sum of N4,079,000 was recovered from the suspected kidnappers, which possibly could be the money remaining of the N5 million paid ransom.
“The outcome of this success followed a report received about the kidnapping of an 8-year-old Mustapha Aliyu Fadil in Mubi who was taken to Barassa Hotel at Maraba Mubi,” the PPRO stated.
He further said that operatives of the police command upon receiving the intelligence report, swung into action and designed strategy and arrested Zaiyat Adamu, 19, a resident of Tashan Gella, Mubi South LGA; Abdulrahman Abubakar, 31, a resident of Shagari Low-cost, Mubi North LGA; Haruna Yakubu, 21, a resident of Kaban ward, Mubi North; Abubakar Muhammed, 20, of Angwan Ba-talaka, Mubi North; and Isa Musa 21, of Angwan Ba-talaka Mubi North.
“The suspects criminally conspired and whisked away their victim where they held him for two days and two nights until when a ransom of N5 million as demanded was paid to them before releasing their victim,” he added.
