Police in Abuja engage kidnappers, rescue victim, recover dangerous weapons

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has confronted kidnappers, rescued one Sani Dauje who was abducted at the Dobi Kwalita in Gwagwalada area of the nation’s capital, reports.

The FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, in a statement issued on Thursday,  said prior to the rescue, the officers of the command, upon intelligence on the gathering of the assailants, engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel.

According to her, the officers who were aided by military personnel of 176 battalions and the local vigilante, were able to repel the kidnappers and arrest one 18-year-old suspect, Usman Babangida.

It was gathered in the statement that the security agents recovered two fire Arms with breach numbers 56-128031015, both with twenty-one (21) and twenty-three (23) rounds of live ammunition respectively.

According to report, the weapons recovered are currently in the custody of the military operatives and the suspect is currently at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The statement stated that monitoring is ongoing in the area to apprehend fleeing members of the criminal syndicate.

The PPRO in a statement said, “The Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command, CP Babaji Sunday while attributing the recorded success to the rendition of timely, precise and accurate information, enjoins the good people of the Territory not to relent in supporting the police in the above regard, as he registers once again, the command’s unflinching commitment to the fight against crime and criminality in the Territory.

“The Command, therefore, enjoins the residents to maximize the availability of the following numbers for the rendition of information: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883. This is to sustain a relatively peaceful FCT for all and sundry.”
