Police drag man to court for forceful entry, malicious damages in Ogun
A man, Timothy Faleye, 38, on Monday dragged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court, over alleged encroachment on a farmland in a community and destroyed crops worth N1.8 million.
Faleye, whose address of residence was not disclosed, was charged by the police with malicious damages, forceful entry, conspiracy and threat to life.
Insp E.O. Adaraloye, the Prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant, and others, carried out the offences on October 26, around 4:30 p.m., at Ijako, through Ajibode, Ado-Odo-Ota area of Ogun.
Adaraloye made an allegation that the defendant and his allies, launched a conspiracy to forcefully invade a farmland, and destroyed crops valued at N1.8 million and which belonged to Ojusango Community.
He said that they also issued threat to take the life of one Chief Akeem Abati, Chief Muisideen Ogunremi and Chief Toyin Sonde.
The prosecutor also revealed that the offences were in contravention of the sections 86, 133, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
When the matter was read to him, Faleye, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of which he has been prosecuted.
Mrs A.O. Adeyemi, the Magistrate, granted the defendant N200,000 bail plus one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi directed that the surety must live within the jurisdiction of the court and have reliable source of income plus evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government.
She has adjourned the matter until December 14, for further hearing.
