Police arrest officers who assaulted young men in Ilorin

The Police in Kwara, on Friday, confirmed the arrest and detention of some of its personnel in a viral video ‘unnecessarily’ arresting two yet-to-be-indentified young men on motorcycle in Ilorin.

SP Ajayi Okasanmi, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the development in a statement in Ilorin, the state capital.

Okasanmi said the suspected erring officers have been arrested and detained, adding that they are now undergoing departmental trial.

The statement read, “The police officers captured harrassing two young men in a viral video around Geri Alimi Ilorin have been arrested, detained and are currently undergoing departmental trial. The victims of this despicable act are encouraged to come to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Police headquarters Ilorin to give evidence to enable a diligent prosecution.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State appeal to members of the public to always report unprofessional conduct of police officers to his office through the following phone numbers – 08125275122/08032365122, please.”

It would be recalled that the video recorded by a yet-to-be-identified person evoked wide public condemnation.
