The Delta State Police Command has arrested one of its operatives who reportedly took the life of a businessman at a checkpoint.
The Informant247 earlier reported that some youth took to the street and premises of the state police headquarters to protest the death of a man who was allegedly killed by a police officer in Asaba, the capital of the State.
The man reportedly met his end following his refusal to pay N100 bribe to the police officers along the Ugbolu-Asaba road.
The angry youth stormed the street and the headquarters of the state police command with the dead body of the victim, demanding for justice to be done on the incident.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Edafe Bright, confirmed the arrest of the police officer, one Inspector Obi Abri for killing the said business man, Onyeka Ibe.
He said the police officer has been arrested, paraded and kept in detention.
“The Command assures members of the public and the deceased family of justice. An investigation has commenced, and he will be arraigned in court for prosecution,” the police mouthpiece noted.
The Informant247 learned that the Governor of the state, Ifeanyi Okowa had spoken against the killing and directed the police to begin an investigation into the death of the 26-year-old newly-married man, Onyeka.
