Police arrest lovers for burying baby alive inside toilet in Jigawa

A woman, Balaraba Shehu, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command over alleged burial of her living newborn baby inside a toilet. 

This was confirmed in a statement released by the spokesperson of the police command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam.

Shiisu revealed that the incident occurred on December 2 around 11:50pm in Tsurma village, Kiyawa Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson said, on receiving the report of the incident, a team of the police officers were immediately mobilised to the affected scene.

He stated: “On receipt of the report, a team of policemen mobilized and proceeded to the scene of crime. On arrival, detectives exhumed the new born baby from the toilet where it was buried by the suspected mother. The suspect was arrested and is now in police custody.”

The PPRO said the baby was hospitalised to the General Hospital Dutse, and was confirmed dead by a medical expert.

The image maker of the police command said police investigation triggered the arrest of one Amadu Sale who’s also known as Dan kwairo aged 25 of Akar village in Kiyawa LGA.

He added that Amadu was reported to have been responsible for the pregnancy and agreed with the 30-year-old woman to bury the small child alive shortly after being borne.

CP Emmanuel Ekot Effiom, the Commissioner of Police in the State, has ordered the movement of the case to SCID Dutse, for further investigation.

He said that suspected criminals would dragged before the court as soon as proper investigation has been concluded.
