PHOTOS: Ilorin celebrates 2024 Durbar in grandstand
The Ilorin Emirates Council on Tuesday held its annual durbar ceremony in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, as part of the program for the Eid-El-Kabir festival.
The Informant247 gathered that many horse riders were led by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
The colourful ceremony attracted dignitaries from far and wide.
It would be recalled that Engr. Suleiman Alapasanpa-led committee of Ilorin durbar has disclosed that this year’s durbar will be used to showcase the rich Islamic heritage and Qur’anic tradition of the emirate.
According to Engr. Alapasanpa, the chairman of the 2024 Ilorin Emirate Grand Durbar committee, while disclosing this at the Emir’s palace during a news conference to herald the event scheduled for two days after Eid- el-Kabir festival, this year’s edition is unique, adding that its activities shall run for seven days with different programmes including the history of the present and past emirs.
Alapansapa said the horse procession will consist of over 500 horsemen led by the Emir, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to be accompanied by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other high chiefs and title holders, while expressing delight that the festival has become a programme which unifies the people, adding that it has put Ilọrin emirate on the world tourism map.
He said, “It has also boosted the local economy, hospitality industry, and transportation sector in the state while showcasing our culture and traditions as a melting point for national coexistence irrespective of tribes and religion.”
