Kashim Shettima, the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria is currently presiding over the national economic council (NEC) meeting in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
It was gathered that the meeting, which is the second since inauguration of the council by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is focusing on how to cushion the effect of petrol subsidy removal.
The vice president, by the provisions of Nigeria’s constitution, is the chairman of NEC, which is held monthly, deliberates on the coordination of the economic planning efforts and economic programmes of the various levels of government.
The council comprises the 36 state governors headed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the minister of finance, the secretary to the government of the federation and other government officials and agencies whose duties hinge on the economy.
