The Peoples Gazette on Thursday April 6 maintained its stand that the leaked phone conversation of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi and the famous Nigerian cleric, Bishop David Oyedepo, is real.

This came as a reaction to Obi’s claim that the conversation with Oyedepo was not real.

Obi while reacting to the development ordered his lawyers to take legal action against the media outlet.

The former Governor of Anambra State, Obi said he has never referred to the 2023 election as a religious war.

While in its reacting to the issue, the media outlet insisted that the phone conversation between Obi and Oyedepo was real.

The Gazette’s Deputy Managing Editor, Boladale Adekoya on Thursday April 6 said the newspaper maintains that its publication was real.

He said the presidential candidate wants to make them disclose the source of the leaked phone conversation with.

He added that the newspaper will protect the source of the publication.

He said, “The audio and the context surrounding it were properly sourced and authenticated in line with journalism best practices.”

“Finally, we maintain in no uncertain terms that we will uphold the principle of source protection to any length.”
