PDP can’t win election if I leave party – Wike

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has said that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP cannot win the forthcoming 2023 presidential election without his contribution.

This came amid crisis within the party, as Governor Wike and other party leaders call for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

Governor Wike has explained that he and four other governors cannot be underestimated in the party; and that the party would not be able to win elections without their contributions.

He made this remark while addressing journalists at a media chat in Port Harcourt, the capital of the state, on Friday.

The Informant247 observes that Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom; Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu and Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have been calling for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP’s National Chairman.

The aggrieved governors had maintained that the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar and the National Chairman of the party, Ayu cannot be chosen from the same region.

The governor reaffirmed that the PDP won some states because he contributed financial support.

“If I leave the party today, the PDP cannot win the election. If the five PDP governors say they are leaving today, we are not just ordinary governors, we are very committed and strong.

“There is nobody that wants to win an election and still continue the way they are doing. I have supported many states financially to win elections in the past, including Plateau, Ondo, and Cross Rivers and they cannot deny it”.
