Panic as bandits invade Kwara community, kidnap prominent businessman
There was palpable tension in the early hours of Sunday when bandits invaded Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, kidnapping a prominent agro-chemical dealer popularly known as Alhaji Chemical
During the incident, which occurred around 1 a.m., there was an exchange of gunfire between the bandits and local hunters who tried to repel the attack.
Local, who spoke to The Informant247 under anonymity, revealed that the bandits invaded the community, after which they stormed the victim’s residence around Taiwo Road in Lafiagi, shooting to create panic before taking him away.
“They came around 1 a.m. and went to Alhaji Chemical’s house. There was an exchange of gunfire between them and the local hunters, but the bandits were heavily armed. They overpowered the local hunters and escaped with him,” the source told The Informant247.
This abduction comes barely a week after a deadly attack on Lile village in Patigi Local Government Area, where people were killed by bandits.
They thereafter demanded a N200 million levy from the community or threatened another ferocious attack.
Efforts to reach the state police spokesperson for comment by press time were unsuccessful.
