Oyo govt says rehabilitation of tourist sites will boost revenues

The rehabilitation of tourist sites in Oyo will boost the state’s revenue, authorities have pinpointed.

“It will generate millions of dollars through tourism as being generated in Colorado in the United States of America,” Chairman of Oyo State Culture and Tourism Board, Mr Debo Adejumobi, said

Adejumobi made the assertion in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Ibadan.

The chairman listed the tourist sites to include Iyake Suspended Lake in Ado Awaye, Idere Hill in Ibarapa, Captain Bower’s Tower and Cultural Center.

He said that the board and the state government sought investors who would partner with them to develop some of the tourist sites.

“A team from Federal Government has also visited the above-mentioned tourist centres for collaboration.

“Developing the tourist sites will bring lots of benefits both to the government and communities at large.

“Creating employment opportunities for youths, provision of infrastructure such as good roads, health facilities and electrification for people’s comfort are paramount,” he said.

Adejumobi said there was the need to encourage more investors to build hotels and other facilities for human comfort.

“When these things are put in place, the economy of the area will change and people will be able to showcase their cultural heritage,” he said.

He said that the board was ready to collaborate with the public and private sectors to improve tourism in Oyo State.

“We are seeking the support and cooperation of all stakeholders.

“We have challenges of unlimited wants in the face of limited resources.

“With the giant strides of Gov. Seyi Makinde on economic strategic recovery, we believe it will have a positive effect on tourism and revenue generation.

“On security, with the aid of Amotekun and others, the safety of tourists can be assured.

“COVID-19 pandemic has restricted the cohesive nature of tourism; therefore, strict adherence to its protocols is paramount,” he said. (NAN)
