Outgoing Gov El-Rufai reinstates 1,288 primary school teachers who got sacked 10 months ago

The government of Kaduna State has confirmed the reinstatement of 1,288 primary school teachers who were dismissed 10 months ago.

The Informant247 recalls that the state government in June 2022 dismissed over 2000 school teachers in the state over failure of or poor performance in a competency test.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna state Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB), Hauwa Mohammed, shared the good news to the school teachers in a statement released on Wednesday April 5.

Mohammed revealed that the competency test affected 1,266 teachers as 22 others got removed from the state government payroll over alleged unproven claims.

She explained that some of the sacked teachers told the state government that they wrote the competency test and still lost their jobs.

She said those who complained of health issue presented proof.

The spokesperson added that some complained that they were abducted during the time the rest was conducted.

She said some others lost their jobs due to verification of their certificates.

“Having examined and verified their complaints, the state government approved the reinstatement of 392 teachers, who wrote and passed the test, and 515 central administration staff that were officially exempted from the test.”

“Others are 298 teachers, who were verified to be sick at the time of the test, as well as 61 teachers that were kidnapped or involved in accidents verified by their respective education secretaries.

She also said 22 teachers, who were “permanently removed from the payroll for unsubstantiated claims were equally reinstated, amounting to a total of 1,288 reinstated workers”.

The spokesperson ordered the concerned teachers to obtain their reinstatement letters from their respective education secretaries with immediate effect.
