Osun House of Assembly invites govt finance agencies over debt profile

The Osun State House of Assembly has invited concerned financial agencies of the government to make clarification on the controversial Osun State debt profile.

The Informant247 recalls that the Governor of the State, Ademola Adeleke had alleged that his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola has run the state into billions of naira debt.

The Governor has cried out that the huge weight of the debt does not correspond with the level of infrastructure put in place by the immediate past Governor.

Meanwhile, Ismail Omipidan, the media aide to the former Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has dismissed the claims of the incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke that his principal (Oyetola) took bank loans.

Omipidan said the immediate past Governor of the state did not take any bank loans for the 4 years he used in office as Governor.

He added that the debt which Adeleke was emphasising was incurred by Oyetola’s predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s administration.

The spokesperson of the state assembly, Hon Kunle Akande, has in a statement called for calm, and assuring members of the public that the true information about the matter will be made public very soon, after investigation.

The statement reads: “The State of Osun House of Assembly has expressed concerns over the reactions trailing yesterday’s debt profile declaration by Governor of the State, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

“The Assembly as the accredited representatives of the people is duty bound to seek clarifications and inform the people of the State accordingly.

“In this regard, we have instructed the appropriate agencies of government to immediately furnish the House with the updated details of the State’s debt and financial profile.

“We hereby call on all investors and business owners not to be alarmed by the said debt profile of the State.”
