Osun govt to upgrade Oja-titun to ultramodern market, says Commissioner

Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun, has said that his administration would upgrade the Oja-titun market to an international, ultramodern market.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Bode Olanipekun, who represented Gov. Oyetola, made the disclosure during the Stakeholders’ Forum on the Reconstruction of New Ife Ultramodern Market, Odo-ogbe, at Ife Central Local Government, Conference Room, Ile-Ife.

He said that the market project is one of the critical and major areas of focus for the government, stressing that the traditional market that was built with wood and congregated iron sheets before would be modernized.

Oyetola applauded the market men and women for their patience and mutual understanding with the state government.

“Your perseverance with this government gave you the priviledge of getting the best market across the state, for this administration is always proactive and delivers according to standard,”he stated.

According to him, this ultramodern market, when completed, would add more values to tourists centres in Ile-Ife and Osun State as participants of Olojo festival would see it as a tourists attraction.

While Speaking, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, said that the efforts of Gov. Oyetola in prioritising all that concerns the cradle of Yorubas in all ramifications cannot be over-emphasised.

Ooni, who was represented by Obalufe of Ife Kingdom, Oba Idowu Adediwura, commended the governor for reconstructing Road 7, Campus Road, Iloro/Again Road respectively in Ile-Ife and the Famia Road to Oke-Eso, Modakeke-Ife among others.

He appealed to Gov. Oyetola to ensure completion of the market as promised, after laying the foundation of Odo-Ogbe Ultramodern Market between May/June, 2022.

Also, the Chairman, Ife Central Local Government, Mr Eluyera Elugbaju, lauded Gov. Oyetola for the way he is handling the market project, especially this time that people have lost their shops to fire outbreaks last year.

The Chairman appreciated businessmen and women for their tolerance, urged them to exercise more patience with the government, for the project would surely be completed within 18 months.

Also, the State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal, congratulated the citizenry for having Oyetola as their governor and for remembering the ancient city for bringing the international market to them.

Lawal stated that Oyetola is not God, but he keeps his promises to the last letter.

He admonished the indigenes to continue praying for the present administration and support its continuity by casting their votes for him during the gubernatorial elections.

In the same vein, the Chairman, Ife Central West Local Council Development Area, Bisi Oladosu, thanked those that graced the occasion.

Oladosu said that government alone cannot do it alone, and charged all and sundry to contribute their own quota to the growth and development of Ile-Ife and Osun at large.

The Iyaloja of Odo-Ogbe Market, Alhaja Falilat Lawal, said she had been so sad since their shops were burnt, but is now happy after seeing the map of the ultramodern market.

Lawal prayed for the government to ensure they too enjoy the dividends of democracy by completing the market for them on time, saying they have suffered enough trying to make sales.
