[Op-ed] Prof Wale Sulaiman: The Man with local acceptability, national honor and international recognition
Professor Wale Sulaiman, a Neurosurgeon and leading governorship Aspirant in Kwara State needs no introduction at local, national and global space. His works and contributions to the society positioned him as a man of value and substance.
Prof Wale Sulaiman who hails from Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun local government of Kwara State grew up in Lagos State. He happens to be one of many brilliant minds from humble background that enjoys the scholarship of late Lateef Jakande to acknowledge knowledge both within and outside the country.
It’s therefore not surprising that the Global Renowned Neurosurgeon has been going extra miles to give back to the society through volunteer services and accepting public service responsibilities amidst existing money making opportunities in his profession.
Prior to his appointment as the Special Adviser (Health Matters) to Kwara State Governor, Prof Sulaiman has invested quality time and resources into serving in different committees within and outside the state to solve problems as well as drive implementation of policies, especially in the health sector. He excelled as the Special Adviser by leading Kwara State containment of COVID-19 and other diseases. Records are there to speak for themselves.
Interestingly, the Founder of RNZ Foundation was appointed as the Governing Council Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun by late President Muhammadu Buhari and later secured reappointment under President Bola Tinubu administration. This feat confirms that golden fish have no hiding place. It’s therefore cheering to note that Prof Wale Sulaiman secured employment for 62 Kwara-born at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun and also created opportunities for others within the system. He donated shuttle buses to ease transportation of students and staff from town to the University.
As a Medical Expert, Prof Wale Sulaiman usually shuttle from his base abroad to render medical services in Nigerian Hospitals amidst the growing challenge of brain drain and japa syndrome bedevilling the health sector. No wonder, he received the national honor as Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) which is a high-level Nigerian national honour awarded to citizens for distinguished service, leadership, and contributions to the nation.
Beyond career success, the Ajase-Ipo born Medical Doctor has been impacting lives across Kwara State by providing educational, health, business and humanitarian support through RNZ Foundation. His community impacts have received accolades from government officials, traditional Rulers and religious leaders.
On the global stage, he is a member of the International Advisory Board of the most prestigious Neurosurgery Journal. He would therefore be using the platform to add value to medical training and practice globally.
Having highlighted Prof Wale Sulaiman’s impact, it’s imperative for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to pick him as their Candidate for Kwara 2027 Governorship Election due to his popularity and acceptability among Kwarans across 16 local government areas.
