Fire has consumed a portion of the palace of the foremost Yoruba traditional monarch, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR.
The fire incident which was attributed to power surge razed an apartment within the palace’s courtyard around 11:30pm on Friday April 28.
Those residing in the area confirmed that an explosion from electrical appliances in the affected building preceded the fire incident.
It took the intervention of the operatives of the fire service, and support from indigenes and palace aides to extinguish the fire.
The sad development was confirmed by the spokesperson of the palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, who added that the situation has been controlled.
