One dies as rival cult clash in Kwara
A 23-year-old commercial tricyclist simply identified as Samad has been reportedly killed in a bloody street brawl between rival cult groups in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
The Informant247 gathered that the killers of the deceased, suspected to be another cult group dumped his corpse in front of a mosque at Abayawo area of Ilorin metropolis.
Eyewitnesses said that the assailants shot the tricyclist dead, removed his left eye and chopped off his left hand.
The incident happened on Monday April 24, 2023. The bloody encounter was said to have started around 12am on Monday.
It was learnt that the clash rendered the residents of Abayawo and Gambari communities apprehensive and sleepless.
Sources said the supremacy battle between the two rival cult groups was the reason for the clash as they were said to have engaged in fierce gun battle.
A resident of Abayawo, while giving account of the incident, stated that some young fierce-looking men had stormed the community in tricycles at about 9:00 pm on Sunday, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons.
It added that in the ensuing pandemonium, residents ran helter skelter for their lives as the cult members shot severally since 9:00pm.
Another source said that Samad met his death at about 4:00am when he came out and was ambushed by the cult members who reportedly shot him.
“It was while Samad was trying to manouvre his way through one corner that he was chased and was shot. After he was confirmed to have given up the ghost, the assailants allegedly dragged the corpse to the main road in front of the mosque while his left eye and left hand were removed and taken away.
However, it was learnt that the family members reportedly took the remains of the deceased to Moslem cemetery, Osere, the state capital for burial.
