Oke-Ero attack: community security commander killed, two abducted as Saheed Popoola raises alarm
A community security commander, Agbeniga Taye, has reportedly been killed while two residents were abducted during an attack on Idofin-Ayekale in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Taye was reportedly killed while attempting to protect residents during the attack on the Idofin-Odo Ashe axis of the community.
The incident has heightened security concerns in parts of Kwara South, with residents and communities in vulnerable areas facing renewed fears over attacks and abductions.
Reacting to the development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Kwara South Senatorial District, Hon. Saheed Popoola, condemned the reported killing and abduction and called for urgent security intervention across vulnerable communities in the senatorial district.
Popoola commiserated with the family of the deceased and the affected community, while urging the Kwara State Government and security agencies to strengthen security presence, intelligence gathering and coordinated operations in Oke-Ero and other vulnerable areas.
“Those who volunteer to protect their communities should not become victims themselves. We must not allow fear to become the normal condition of life for our people,” Popoola said.
He also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of the two abducted residents and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
According to him, residents of Kwara South should be able to live, farm and conduct their businesses without fear.
The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the identity of those responsible and the current whereabouts of the abducted residents, could not be independently established at the time of filing this report.
Popoola’s statement was signed by Abiodun Segun, his media aide.
