Ogun Govt announces end of free entry to Olumo rock

The Ogun State Government has declared that the free entry initiative to the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex will cease on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Tokunbo Talabi, Secretary to the State Government, attributed the initial decision to make entry free to efforts by Governor Dapo Abiodun to transform Olumo Rock into a premier tourist destination.

“However, the unprecedented influx of visitors has raised concerns about overcrowding and public safety. At certain points, the volume of the crowd posed risks that could have resulted in a stampede but for the swift and professional intervention of security agencies and on-site personnel,” Talabi noted.

He further stated, “In view of this, and in line with the government’s priority to safeguard lives, His Excellency has directed that the free entry initiative will come to an end on Saturday, 23rd August 2025. Thereafter, normal access procedures will resume.”

The Ogun State Government expressed regret for any inconvenience this change may cause and reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors to the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex.

The site, now equipped with modern amenities, features an art gallery, souvenir shop, and guided tours that explore its historical significance, located in Ikija near the Itoku Adire Market.
