The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has once again raised concerns regarding a purported plan to incite violence in Abuja.
In a statement released on Monday, the NURTW highlighted its apprehensions over the alleged intentions of certain leaders associated with the South West States Park Management Committee.
According to the joint statement signed by President Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa and General Secretary Anthony Asogwa Chukwudi, the NURTW suspects that these leaders aim to orchestrate violence in Abuja and target the union’s national secretariat located in Garki 2, Abuja.
The NURTW alleged that the plotters are intending to stage a protest under the pretext of expressing dissatisfaction with the outcomes of the recently concluded 10th Quadrennial National Delegate Conference held in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The union claims that the true motive behind the planned protest is to create chaos and disruption within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The statement emphasized, “We have received credible information that this group has already mobilized individuals with intentions to carry out their scheme and infiltrate our National Secretariat.”
The NURTW asserts that the planned protest is merely a smokescreen, and the real aim is to cast aspersions on the union’s leadership while fostering confusion and turmoil.
Describing the alleged plot in more detail, the NURTW revealed that these individuals plan to masquerade as dissatisfied union members to initiate a violent demonstration and execute their malicious activities.
The union claims that this group has taken tangible steps to carry out their plans, including the recruitment of individuals with violent tendencies. “A strategy meeting reportedly occurred at a hotel in Wuye, Abuja.”
The NURTW, in response, has taken the initiative to inform the police and other pertinent security agencies about the proposed actions of this group.
The union’s statement serves as both a caution to the public and a call for vigilance.
While urging the alleged plotters to reconsider their course of action, the NURTW also appeals to security agencies to intervene swiftly and effectively to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order within the capital.
“These individuals are not affiliated with our union; they are solely interested in promoting violence within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). We use this opportunity to implore the security agencies to rise to the occasion and prevent any disruptions to peace and order,” the NURTW’s statement concludes.
