NSIB launches investigation as two injured in aircraft crash-land at Ilorin Airport
The National Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into the crash-landing of an aircraft at Ilorin International Airport where two occupants of a Diamond training aircraft operated by the Aviation Training School, Ilorin, sustained injury and were hospitalised following the crash-landing of the aircraft.
In a statement released on Friday night, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance of the Bureau, confirmed that the incident occurred at 17:28 local time on May 23, 2025, during a simulated instrument approach on Runway 05.
“The aircraft veered off the runway and came to a stop on the grass verge,” Oladeji reported.
She highlighted that “two occupants were on board, both of whom sustained serious injuries and were swiftly evacuated to a medical facility, with coordination by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).”
The NSIB has announced that its Go-Team is preparing to travel from Abuja to Ilorin to conduct on-site investigations. Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of the NSIB, shared his thoughts, stating, “Our thoughts are with the injured, and we commend the swift medical and emergency response. Our focus now is on understanding exactly what went wrong. Every investigation is an opportunity to improve safety.”
