NNPC shutdown Port Harcourt refining for maintenance

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced a scheduled maintenance shutdown for the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), which is set to begin on May 24, 2025.

This initiative is part of a planned maintenance and sustainability assessment aimed at ensuring optimal operation of the facility.

In a statement released by Femi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd stated, “The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) wishes to inform the general public that the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will undergo a planned maintenance shutdown.”

The statement continued, “This scheduled maintenance and sustainability assessment will commence on May 24, 2025. We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), to ensure the maintenance and assessment activities are carried out efficiently and transparently.”

NNPC Ltd remains committed to delivering sustainable energy security and has promised to provide further updates regularly through official channels, including its website and media platforms.

This is not the first instance of a shutdown for the PHRC; the facility was also shut down in December 2024 after operations resumed following a significant $1.5 billion rehabilitation.
