NRC reacts as Abuja-Kaduna-bound train derails
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Kayode Opeifa, has confirmed that a train derailed while on its way to Kaduna.
The incident occurred at Asham station, as stated in Opeifa’s announcement on Tuesday.
In his remarks, Opeifa emphasized that emergency teams, including medical personnel and nearby hospitals, have been mobilized to assist injured passengers.
However, the exact cause of the derailment remains unclear at this time.
According to the statement signed by Opeifa and shared on NRC’s official X handle, “The Nigerian Railway Corporation confirms a train derailment involving our Kaduna-bound AKTS train service at about 11:09 am at KM 49 between Kubwa station and Asham station.”
He further assured that “Emergency rescue, medical personnel, and nearby hospitals have already been mobilized. Full complement of security is already on the ground as efforts are ongoing to move all passengers on the train back to Abuja safely.”
Opeifa concluded with a message for those affected, saying, “Kindly bear with us at this moment.”
